How to Park a Disc

Unlike parking a car, parking a disc is actually quite enjoyable.

The goal of most disc golf shots is to put the disc in the basket. That means that if I can throw the disc 300 feet, and the basket is 300 feet away, I will try to throw the disc into the basket. If however, I don't get there, and the disc does not go into the basket, the next best outcome is a park job.

A park job is when the disc is so close to the basket that I would have to try to miss the putt. For the record, I have missed park job putts when I first started to play disc golf.

When putting, even short putts, I take the Matt Bell approach to putting. I assume this is his approach by watching him play, but I don't really know. Bell treats every single putt as unique and requiring attention. I don't always succeed in channelling Matt Bell's energy in all of my putts, but when I do, I'm certainly not doinking a park job putt.

Matt Bell is one of my favorite disc golfers to watch play. He's a true professional, and clearly respects the sport at a high level. Matt Bell's website can be found at mattbelldiscgolf.com.
