It doesn't cost a lot of money to run the Gaithersburg Newsletter in its current form. However, in addition to free labor, there are some out of pocket expenses to run these servers.

Since this has just launched in January 2023, the exact cost isn't known, but the estimation is that it will cost about $50 a month to run this webserver and the Mastodon Gaithersburg instance. This includes hosting costs and domain name fees. Hosting is the bulk of the cost, and if more people join in on the fun, the cost to run the Gaithersburg Newsletter will increase. Gaithersburg Newsletter is not a non-profit, it's literally one guy in his basement. Rather than ask for money, purchasing swag in the form of t-shirts and hats is the preferred method of showing support.
